I have been privileged to be able to design my art pieces to the beautiful backdrop of the Daintree Rainforest.
The area allows me abundant natural inspiration every single day.
I have spent substantial time working as artist in residence at a number of venues in the Daintree area.
Its a wonderful opportunity to be creating and designing work, while speaking with people about it. They can see the work going into each piece and its a wonderful process for both parties. It gives me great pleasure.
The most extensive time I have spent as Artist in Residence has been at the Daintree Icecream Company. (yes I love icecream.....it was a natural choice for me!).
Such a gorgeous setting. Amongst the delightful gardens of tropical flowering plants and exotic fruit trees which make up the most delicious ice creams!!!........and yes I have one every day!!!If its summer I even get to eat durian, which is fabulous. (Its not for the faint hearted... its a very smelly fruit!)
While visiting, you can eat your icecream walking around the gardens or just looking at the fantastic view of Thornton's peak. Its stunning! I play there throughout the summer months. A georgeous venue ......I never tire of it...or the ice cream! And the staff are all lovely too.
My other main Venue is currently the multi (and I mean multi!!!)award winning, spectacular, Daintree Discovery Centre.
This is a wonderful venue.
The Daintree Discovery Centre is designed to give people a unique experience to help engage them with the natural surroundings and explore the ecology of the daintree in a very user friendly way.
You learn about nature by looking through every level of the rainforest from the forest floor, to the top of the Canopy on the superb Canopy Tower.
Its an excellent Centre, fun for all kinds of people.
They host me as an Artist in Residence at various times throughout the year. They also showcase my unique jewellery designs in their georgeous boutique gift shop all year round. I think they have the best coffee in the area (although I do keep drinking more to be sure) and the staff are fabulous....dont miss it!
I have also worked at other venues but Im always keen to try different ones.
Because my designs are diverse, I have a native seed range (not featured on my site so much) and also a range of more exotic high end pieces(These are mostly in Galleries and Boutique shops, not featured on my site), as well as the day to day wear. Its suitable to do artist in residence at any number of venues as my range is quite diverse.
Id even got to Malibu if that were required!!!!Id even drink a Pina Colada if I had to!
Artist in residence is a perfect way to get to know people and to talk with them about my work, its inspiration and its application.
Every artist in residence day is a succesful one, for both the artist and the venue. Its a great Marketing opportunity for the venue; it promotes Sales in the venue and is a feel good experience for visitors, so they remember the venue in an even more positive way.
